Canadian. 1966-67. Each Ink on paper. A collection of six (6) unique and prized handwritten letters from Maud Lewis to fellow artist John Kinnear, each with dates from 1966-1967. A letter dated ""Feb 3rd 67"" states that she has finished decorating some dustpans which Mr. Kinnear had supplied her. In another dated "Feb 8 66." Maud acknowledges receiving Kinnear's primed boards but not having time to paint them with her burden of responding to 300 letters after her fame on CBC. This letter also includes a photograph showing Maud at her front door, marked by Kinnear on reverse. In the third letter Maud dated "Feb 13th. 67" laments that she can't fulfill Kinnear's order but commits to do 5, and she speaks of a trailer that she hopes to paint in. In the fourth letter dated Jan 17th.67" (3 pages in envelope) Maud updates Kinnear on her progress on paintings, and also reaches out about supplies needed. A fifth letter (no envelope, no date) speaks more about the paints needed. The sixth letter includes Christmas greetings from Lewis to Kinnear. Maud mentions, "You must be getting real mad at me", and she comments on all of the cars stopping by - " I really dont know what end I'm standing on - my feet or my head". Each signed, "Maud Lewis". Most letters measure 10" x 8". Envelopes: 4.5" x 6.75". Some of the letters are slightly larger in size. These are the last of the letters saved and now offered from the Estate of John H. Kinnear SCW / CSPWC."
