Description
Chinese. C. 1830. Hardwood. A reclining Lui Hai carved figure with a three-legged toad from dense hardwood with porcelain eyes and natural teeth. Liu Hai represents prosperity and wealth to the Chinese. He was a government official and alchemist in ancient China who befriended a three-legged toad. According to the story, every time the toad jumped into a well he returned with a gold coin. Having an image of these two in your home or office greatly improves your chance of receiving riches. Marked, with Chinese characters on the 'coin' in hand. 7.5" x 19" x 8". From the Estate of John H. Kinnear SCW / CSPWC.
