Vintage Canadian Artist MCM Modern Arnold Wood Painting Signed, O/B, SLR, 11 x 14"
Arnold Wood studied at Central Technical Arts in Toronto from 1947 to 1951 and was selected by the Junior Art for Peace Exchange Program co-sponsored by Canada and Russia during the height of the Cold War. He went on to study at Rochdale College in Indiana from 1951 to 1952, Ontario College of Art from 1953 to 1958. Wood then toured England, France, Italy, Austria, German and Russia. The New York City Neo-Expressionist movement was a constant attraction to Wood in the late 1950s and early 1960s, but the European Post-Expressionists never allowed him to wander further in want of style. His spatial distortions, robust coloration and subject matter seemed to align Wood with the German Expressionism of the 1930s.
