Description
Lithyaline bottle probably Dresden, Saxony, 18th century, attributed to Johann Friedrich Boettger Sealing wax red, marbled glass with tear. Rectangular wall with chamfered corners in cross-section. On the shoulder, lentil cut decor. Short tubular neck with honeycomb faceted mouth rim. H. 21 cm Johann Friedrich Boettger, a German alchemist and ceramist, is known for his groundbreaking work in porcelain making. He was born in Schleiz, Thuringia, in 1682 and spent much of his life in Dresden. In addition to porcelain, Boettger also devoted himself to glass production. The lithyaline glass is a remarkable example of this. It is a glass with a wide variety of sealing wax red colours and a special marbling.
