Description
A large hand beaded textile panel primarily decorated with architecture and geometric designs on white background, glass beads sewn on too heavy canvas backing, with flaps at top to hold ties. Apron panels such as this are known as Ipepetu or Pepetu. They are worn by young unmarried women. Wearing the pepetu apron means the young woman is ready to be married. She would wear such apron until her wedding day. The panel measures approximately 13.5 inches x 17.5 inches. Provenance: Private Collection, Tryon, North Carolina
