A modern vintage life-size articulated wooden artist's mannequin. Circa mid-20th century, possibly from Italy or France. The form has intricate features which is hand carved into the wood. Made with what appears to be a type of walnut as well as composite. Many forms are often androgynous, yet the torso and facial features of this example is clearly a male figure. These articulated mannequins have been an artistic staple for centuries dating back to the 16th century. Artists use the forms in their studio as a reference to the human form. The mannequin can be placed in various positions with an articulating design made of wooden pegs and ball joints. In the 19th century, these forms were highly sought after throughout Europe, particular France where famous artists often had a "Mannequin Articule" listed in their procession. Today, they are still highly collectable and make an artistic statement in a modern or contemporary aesthetic. There are many table-top mannequins available in the market, but a life-size example is not as prevalent. From a private collection. Dimensions: 55"h x 25"w x 32"d.
