A somber and subdued mezzotint on paper titled "The Balanced Rock" by Robert Kipness. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right with an annotation of 39/75 on the bottom left. Original gallery tag from Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco, CA on verso. A nature-inspired composition that elicits a Zen, calming effect. A minimal yet powerful artwork for a modern or contemporary space. Robert Kipniss (1931-) is an American painter and printmaker. His mature paintings, lithographs, mezzotints, and drypoints share stylistic characteristics and subject matter and typically depict trees seen close up or at varying distances in fields. Other works show one or more houses in a landscape or town setting. Robert's 1987 drawing, "Study for the Blue Stove," was featured in an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, along with a mezzotint and mezzotint plate of the same image.
