Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand or Burma, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden monk seated atop a tiered platform, covered in lustrous copper leaf, and holding both hands in the Bhumisparsha mudra. Size: 3.7" L x 4.1" W x 8.125" H (9.4 cm x 10.4 cm x 20.6 cm)

According to the consignor, this piece was previously owned by the Portland Art Museum in Oregon.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired before 2001; ex-Portland Museum of Art, de-accession number 2001.82.7
