Description
United States, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of antique travel and storage trunks, one is an early 1800s style hair-on stagecoach style and a larger trunk is covered in painted leather. The smaller trunk is covered in cowhide, brass rivet tacks, iron handles - one side has the classic heart shaped plate. The interior is lined with a patterned paper liner and the original manufacturer label, Andrew Riley of Boston Massachusetts. This was a popular type up until the 1840s! The larger leatherbound trunk has been restored with painted pigments to cover any missing leather. This type probably dates to the latter half of the 19th century CE. Size of larger: 27" L x 13.5" W x 14" H (68.6 cm x 34.3 cm x 35.6 cm); smaller trunk: 24" L x 12" W x 9" H (61 cm x 30.5 cm x 22.9 cm)
