The hinged lid painted with red waves, and with a black and white dove perched on the roof holding a leaf in its beak, above the frieze surrounded by a vine border, each side with a pair of doors flanked by windows and with two windows on each end, containing (per the 1953 list that accompanied the ark, and with a few missing), two (dromedary) camels, two horses, two elephants, two cows, two sheep, two tigers, two giraffes, two (bactrian) camels, two unicorns, two leopards, two tapirs, two lions, two bears, two donkeys, two jaguars, two monkeys, two wolves, two foxes, two goats, two pug dogs, two wild cats, two pigs, two wallabies, two deer, two foxhounds, two guinea pigs, four cats, two dogs, two puppies, one rabbit, two squirrels, two tortoises, two spiders, two grasshoppers, two fowls (chickens), two partridges, two quails, two rooks, two jackdaws, two doves, two magpies, six geese, four ducks, 14 pairs of birds and one single bird (29), one peacock, one rat, one butterfly, one ladybug, "Mr. and Mrs. Noah, Mr. and Mrs. Shem, Mr. and Mrs. Ham, and Mr. and Mrs. Japhet."
