'Plutarch's Lives' or 'Parallel Lives' is one of the most important and comprehensive collection of biographies of famous Greek and Roman figures. Plutarch was not so much focused on providing a historical account of these famous individuals as much as he was seeking to write of the type of person they were and the life in which they lived. He focuses on Alexander the Great, Romulus and Remus, Demosthenes, Cicero, Brutus, Julius Caesar, and many other important figures.
Copy from the possession of the theologian Johannes Tornarius, who was pastor at the Martinikirche in Dransfeld near Gottingen from 1599 until his death in 1610.
With his ownership entry on the title (dated 1597) and his discreet ink note about the completed reading on the last page of the text on verso: "finit T. 7. Mar. anno 1599".
The front cover with 'Tornarius' owner's initials "IT" and the year of binding "1597".
