The work depicts a sunrise or sunset on the horizon gleaming rich hues of orange and pink, though a patch of clouds revealing the silhouette of trees and a body of water. Artist signature at lower right "RICHARD 84". Work is presented in a period gilt oval sight frame, sight measuring approximately 40" x 53.25". Retaining two old labels affixed to verso, "KARLSRUHE" and "1898 PAGE 86 NUMBER 1166" in a foreign language. Sotheby's label located on frame front side. Provenance: This item originated from a distinguished auction event hosted by Sotheby's in October 1995, designated as LOT 3362 at the Neues Schloss (New Castle), Baden-Baden, Germany. It was a part of the royal collection belonging to Margrave Max von Baden (1933-2022), a prominent figure in European aristocracy and the first cousin of Prince Charles III. This auction showcased a selection of valuable items from his esteemed collection.

Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition, having age-related color toning with aged varnish and estate grime. The frame is in poor condition with losses and wear throughout. Comes accompanied with fragments of the frame for later restoration. Estate fresh to the market.
