Hamilton (Emma).- English School (19th century) Portrait of Emma, Lady Hamilton, pencil, touches of watercolour, on wove paper, affixed at corners onto brown mount support, inscription verso reads 'Mrs Siddons/ by Sir Thomas Lawrence', sheet 240 x 190 mm (9 1/2 x 7 1/2 in), small puncture to sheet in the lower left quadrant, minor surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1800 or slightly later]; together with three variant working studies of an Alpine landscape with stone house, mountains in the distance, by an unknown hand, on two sheets, each approx. 290 x 220 mm (11 1/2 x 8 5/8 in), unframed, 19th century (3)*** The portrait is possibly a study based on Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun's 'Life Study of Lady Hamilton as the Cumaean Sybil', 1792.
