Description
Finster, Howard (American/Georgia, 1916-2001), Bullheaded and Stubborn, October 12, 1994, mixed media cutout sculpture. Painted and inscribed wood bull attached to a base, applied paper with sermon on base. Signed, numbered 44.000.960, peace dove, additional sermon verso. 12.75 x 17 x 3.75 inches. Reverend William Howard Finster was a minister for over forty years in Alabama. After retirement, he moved to Summerville, Georgia, where he turned his swampland into Paradise Garden in reflection of his religious beliefs and a vision that sent him on a mission to create sacred art. His works have been featured on album covers for popular rock bands such as The Talking Heads and REM. Provenance: Virginia Freeman Gallery, Destin, Florida.
