Adolf Hitler – his personal sketchbook, from around 1930A large-format sketchbook, printed on the front: "Neuer Skizzier-Block, Paul Conradt, München, Theresienstrasse 78, Zeichen- und Malartikel" (Conradt had been Hitler's preferred supplier of drawing materials for many years). The sketchpad with 36 used sheets, drawn with sketch pens, coloured pencils and in pencil, including a number of very early and previously unknown drawings, World War I tanks and armed ships, architectural drawings of buildings, party offices, columns, monuments, a stage set for the opera Tristan and Iseult, one of which in colour, a sketch of a town hall and many more. Some of the sketches labelled in Hitler's handwriting, some written by a third party, including Albert Speer. Dimensions approx. 45 x 32 cm. Saddle stitched, severe signs of age and storage marks on the binding. Defects in places, the sheets generally in good condition. Hitler had been using this sketchbook since the early 1930s, frequently sharing his ideas and designs with Albert Speer, who also brought his architectural influence to bear here. Little is known about the extent of Hitler's early activities. However, his drawings reveal more architectural than painterly qualities. For years, the sketchbook was regarded as lost and took on mythical status. Clearly attributable to Adolf Hitler.
