Item Details
Description
A fine .52 caliber Sharps Model 1852 carbine. With standard markings and serial number "31672". Functional mechanism.

Referred to as the "Slant Breech" or ‘"loping Breech" model, the m1852 Sharps carbine is highly-desirable to collectors because it represents a significant advancement in firearm technology in the 19th century. It is the first carbine to utilize Christian Sharps's patented pellet priming mechanical system integrated into the upper forward section of the lock plate, as well as other novel features he designed. Famously, around 1,000 m1852 Sharps carbines were sent to anti-slavery settlers in the Kansas Territory during the turbulent period of "Bleeding Kansas." The carbine's reliability and innovative design made it a sought-after weapon during the Civil War era.
