Description
"Tom and Pippo Go Shopping" published by Aladdin Books, Macmillan Publishing Company, New York, 1989. Stated First Aladdin Books Edition, first printing, with '1' present in the line and manually applied printer's stamp below the copyright notice.
Hard boards, large format: 8.1/2" x 10.1/4"; 12 pages on cardstock paper, a little wear, very good condition.
Mommy takes Tom and his toy monkey Pippo on a shopping trip. Story is very short, very simple, but gently amusing, and Helen Oxenbury's pictures are beautiful and expressive, as usual. Tom goes shopping with his mother and Pippo, the toy monkey. Pippo gets a very raw deal when it comes to sharing the goodies!
"Black-and-white sketches on the narrative page contrast nicely with larger, full-color watercolors on the facing page. There is lots to observe, talk about, and enjoy for toddlers and adults, all noted with grace and simplicity."
Helen Gillian Oxenbury (born 1938) is an English illustrator and writer of children's picture books. She has twice won the annual Kate Greenaway Medal, the British librarians' award for illustration and been runner-up four times. For the 50th anniversary of that Medal (1955–2005) her 1999 illustrated edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was named one of the top ten winning works.
