Description: VG- (3.5). Spine stress, edgewear, moderate handling marks, corner creases, staples pulled, touch of staple rust, 1.5" tear to one page, grease-pencilled distributor's mark ("8") to "F" in "FANTASTIC". Off-white pages.
Credits: Cover: Uncredited Iger Shop hack, possibly Al Feldstein's unsung erstwhile mentor, Bob Webb. Art: Uncredited Iger Shop grinds, possibly including Myron Fass and Joe Doolin. 2nd ish (Fantastic Fear's numbering started with #7, carried over from the title's previous incarnation as Captain Jet, before reverting to #3 with the next ish).
GPAnalysis: A 3.5 sold for $349 in 5/22.Ta-Tas of Terror: A skull-faced sexpot in a pointy metal bustier plies her corpsified coquettery on a dumbfounded carny fakir on this mag's cover. The sinister sexpot was apparently swiped from the cover of Ajax-Farrell's Voodoo #8 (April 1953), which features another skull-faced temptress with pointy metal breastplates – a one-two whammy of sex and death pitched at the horny adolescents who haunted the nation's newsstands in search of that strange admixture of titillation and terror that pre-Code mags delivered in droves.
The sex-and-death motif continues under the covers, wherein a man comes home to find that monsters have eaten his wife and daughter alive, private parts and all, with the victims' fleshless ribcages and pelvic bones laid bare for the viewer in a madhouse version of indecent exposure.______________________________________________________________
A limited edition of ten hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a few dozen softcovers. Fun reference, great keepsake, fully illustrated, chockablock with obscure facts, gags, bon mots.
