Description: #26: VG/Fine (5.0). A few spine ticks, 1/2" frayed split to top spine, bottom right corner slightly rounded, back cover edges toned, toning to edge of front cover blurb box. Cream pages. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 4.0 sold for $200 in 5/23.
#27: VG/Fine (5.0). A few spine ticks, small crease top top right corner of front cover, shallow chips to top edge of back cover. Off-white pages. GPAnalysis: A 5.0 sold for $137 in 6/22.
Credits: Covers: Lee Elias (#26, and possibly #27). Art: Bob Powell, Joe Certa, Lee Elias, Manny Stallman. Rarefied Heights (Wuthering and Otherwise): The cover to ish #26, in which an adventurer scales rarified heights only to plummet to his doom in a welter of crumbling skeletons, provides an apt visual metaphor for the pre-Code horror boom and bust. Plus: Over 50 years before the genre-bending parody novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was published, Witches Tales #26 featured Bob Powell and Howard Nostrand's "Withering Heights," in which Heathcliff makes out with an undead Cathy Earnshaw ("I tried to tell you, Heathcliff! I've been DEAD, my darling! Dead – for years!").______________________________________________________________
