Burkina Faso, Mossi peoples fertility doll. Hand carved from a single piece of wood and patinated in ceremonies and from use over time. This fertility doll was created by and for a woman longing to have a child. Flattened head with incised facial features, straight incised designs to ears and hairline. Ample breasts hang, with slight protruding belly and elongated neck. The woman who created this piece would care for and carry the doll around with them, suspend her from their belt, or necklaces. collected in 1982 South Africa and reviewed by a member of the Ethnic Arts Council of Los Angeles & Charles D. Miller III as having correct patina and wear from handling and use..
