Item Details
Description
The Clive Wood MBE Collection
c.1922 BSA 4.25hp
Registration no. unregistered
Frame no. T1826
Engine no. R2591
The first model to feature BSA's distinctive green and cream tank colours was a 499cc (3½hp) sidevalve single, which was soon complemented by a 557cc (4¼hp) long-stroke version, built initially with single-speed belt drive transmission and later on with a three-speed countershaft gearbox in the case of the Model K, to which the Model H added chain final drive.

A document on file states the following: 'This machine has been built up using its 557cc side-valve unit from 1921... Later brakes have been fitted (1926) to this bike. Much restoration work has been completed but further work is required. The fitted engine and gearbox are believed to be good but have not been run during the present ownership... It has had a lot of time and money spent on it and is about 95% complete... The work that has been carried out is to a very high standard with no expense spared.' It should be noted that we have been unable to verify any of the claims made in this document; thus the machine is sold strictly as viewed: incomplete and requiring completion. Missing parts include the final drive chain case; rear chain; rear light; gearbox top cover; kickstart lever; and control cables. The machine comes with a dating document and some photocopied literature. There is no registration document with this Lot.

All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
