Rectangular, with an arched top, enameled overall in translucent orange over a wavy guilloché ground, centering a seed-pearl bezel, applied with four-color gold floral swags, with three pearl-set finials, on two bracket-feet, with the mother-of-pearl backing, marked on mounts with 'Fabergé' in Cyrillic and workmaster’s initials
2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) high

Lot Essay

King George I, son of Christian IX of Denmark, was the brother of Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia and Queen Alexandra of Great Britain. He became King of the Hellenes in 1863 and ruled Greece until his assassination at Salonica in 1913. He was married to Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna, daughter of Grand Duke Constantin Nikolaevich of Russia and Grand Duchess Alexandra Iosifovna, born Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. The magnificent collection of Fabergé, belonging to King George I of Greece, was sold at Christie’s in 2007.
