Gao Jianfu (October 12, 1879 – June 22, 1951), born in Panyu, Guangdong, of Han ethnicity, was known by his given name Lun and styled Jianfu. He was a prominent figure in modern Chinese painting and art education, and one of the founders of the Lingnan School of Painting. His major works include "Chicken Cries at Maodian Store," "Cold River and Goose Shadows," "Pumpkin," "Flames of the Eastern Battlefield," "Desolate Jiangguan," "Unparalleled Beauty," "Pine Wind and Moonlit Water," and "Egyptian Heroes." His publications include "Subtleties of Painting," "Indian Art," "Modern Chinese Painting," "My Views on Modern Painting," "Collection of Raven Sounds," "Research on the Himalayas," "Records of the Buddha Land," "New Directions in Chinese Painting," "Autumn Pavilion Painting Postscripts," and "Discussions in Spring Sleep."
