Description

Antique 1890's Hipp Chronoscope, measures time in msecs; electromagnetic coil, cabinet model.

A chronoscope, an intricate timekeeping device, measures precise time intervals. This particular one, crafted by Matthäus Hipp, a German clockmaker who migrated to Switzerland during the tumult of 1848, marked E.Zimmermann.

Wilhelm Wundt, a notable professor at the University of Leipzig, endorsed the use of Hipp's chronoscopes for psychological and physiological studies in his book, Grundzüge der physiologischen Psychologie (1874). Many versions can be found in Scientific Museums and rarely come to market. Acquired directly from a University.

Measures 21" x 10 1/4" x 8 1/8".
