Guillaume du Choul ( Gulielmus Caulius ), 1496 - 1560, is an “ antique dealer ” from Lyon renowned for his collection of medals (ancient coins). His research on ancient Rome , encouraged by Francis I , was partially published during his lifetime, in books which were authoritative until the 18th century . Not limiting himself solely to the references of ancient authors, he innovates by giving value as historical documents to lapidary inscriptions and ancient coins, which abundantly illustrate his works.
