PROVENANCE:
From The private collection of Earl Sorensen, based out of Atlanta, is known as a prominent Asian Antiques collector. A International businessman whom trades with various Asian countries during the 1960s. On a business trip in Western China, he received a Buddha statue as gift from a monk. Since then, he has became fascinated with Chinese artifacts and Eastern cultures. After many decades, Earl Sorensen has planned his retirement, and decided to pass his beloved collections to appreciate collectors. Earl Sorensen's collections can be found from Lot-33 through Lot-65.

Chinese Qing Dynasty KangXi Wucai Dragon and Phoenix Porcelain Plate. The dish plate has a broad wide central interior, rounded mouth lip, thick large, raised on correspondence footed ring base. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base colour which contrast against wucai design colour, depicted of flying phoenix and imperial five claw dragon. Since the dragon and the phoenix usually serve as auspicious symbols, any reported sightings of a dragon or phoenix were considered extremely auspicious, heralding a glorious period of peace and prosperity for the people and the country. This is reflected in the Chinese saying, When the dragon soars and the phoenix dances, the people will enjoy happiness for years, bringing peace and tranquillity to all under heaven. From references to the dragon and phoenixes in local festivals and rites to the heights of literature and fine art, they all reveal the glory of these legendary animals.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within blue ring lines. Made in The Years KangXi Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
