Description
A rare example of the Ives Blakeslee Company's Phoenix Pumper. In the 1890's, the Ives Blakeslee Company, Bridgeport, Connecticut, made several cast iron fire toys that have been referred to as the "Royal Flush" of cast iron Fire Toys by collectors. This example is of the "PHOENIX" fire pumper that consisted of two horses pulling a water pumping cart for fighting fires. Cast Iron construction, measures 18 in. long, embossed "Phoenix" on the yoke. Fair antique condition, displaying expected wear and paint losses. We see several small attachable parts missing, and one horse's tail is broken off. Still presents nicely as a display item and is an acceptable example of this rare toy. It would also represent a great restoration project for the more advanced cast iron toy collector.
