Item Details
Description
(1891-1955) German general, a recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds and the last commander of the Berlin Defense Area. Partly-printed D.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Feb. 13, 1942, an award certificate granting the War Merit Cross, Second Class with Swords to ‘Feldwebel’ Gerd Bohnsack of 10./Inf.-Rgt. 167’. Weidling signs at the conclusion in blue ink as major-general commanding the 86th Infantry Division. Shows a horizontal fold, file holes at left edge and a few faint spots of soiling at lower right, else very good. The document is matted in red along with a brass identifying plaque, two photographs of Weidling, a b/w photo of a soldier, presumably Gerd Bohnsack, with his family, and a second partly-printed D.S. 1p. 8vo., 'In the Field', Feb. 28, 1942, granting Bohnsack the Wound Badge in Black, signed at the conclusion by a captain. File holes at left, central fold, overall very good. All of the above are mounted in a silver frame, total size 17 x 21 in. An attractive presentation, not examined out of frame.
