Item Details
Description
Rare rectangular car flag, 16 x 9.5 in., black field with a horizontal green stripe in the center, two-sided multi-piece construction with a silver embroidered Luftwaffe insignia at the middle. In 1942, ground combat divisions were formed from surplus Luftwaffe personnel bringing about a need for new flags for command vehicles to distinguish them from other divisions. These new flags were similar to the Heer flags, only reversing the striped color scheme. Regiment commands used rectangular flags like this one, whereas battalions used pennant-shaped flags. With the gold and black colors of this flag, it may represent an Armoured Reconnaissance unit. The metal hinges are still intact. A few negligible stains, otherwise near fine condition.
