Description
Allach porcelain statue of a Prussian Seydlitz Kurassier, officially referred to as the 'Garde du Korps', a 1944 piece by artist R. Forster, 24 cm. high. As with Prof. Theodor Karner, Forster was one of the most productive artists of the Allach porcelain factory. Forster was 60 yrs old by 1939 and not eligible for service in the Wehrmacht, so he was available for design work at Allach from the beginning of the war. Primarily his designs included peasant and traditional figures, performers, etc. In addition, Forster modeled a full series of foot soldier figurines as a supplement to cavalry figurines designed by Karner. These figurines were only produced in small editions during the war years and therefore are among the rarest Allach porcelain figures. This example exhibits several damaged areas: the head at some point was severed and has been re-attached, also the plume normally seen at the top of the bicorne military hat has been lost, and there is a chip to the inside rear edge of the hat as well. Additionally, the blade/scabbard of the sword, although not actually broken off, is missing, or was never added to this piece. This example was finished in its natural porcelain state as produced, but was also available in a hand-painted model. Though this example has its flaws, it is in otherwise excellent condition and remains one of the rarest Allach porcelain figurines extant.
