Description
Four personal items owned by C. F. Kimball, Second Lieutenant in Squadron 423, 306TH Bomb Group. According to a photocopy of a report dated Nov. 26, 1944, Kimball is noted as having had his hand ‘badly wounded’ during an attack near the Dutch coast. The group includes: Kimball’s brown leather glove with remnants of yellow paint on the cuff; his Purple Heart with ribbon; Air Medal with ribbon, and his leather ID label. Together with a fine original photograph, 10.5 x 13.5 in. (sight), a period colorized formal portrait, set into a fine vintage frame. The 306th Bomb Group was activated in 1942 in Thurleigh, and, from October 1942 to April 1945, flew 342 missions of 9,614 sorties from that station, dropping 22,575 tons of bombs. Overall very good.
