Description
Interesting metal and wood relics from the wreck of the German battleship TIRPITZ, sister to the infamous BISMARCK, sunk by Royal Air Force bombers off Norway in November in 1994. The 5.5 x 3 in. tall piece of rusted steel is presented in a wood display with a brass plaque reading ‘Tirpitz’, de-accessed from the Tromso Museum in Norway in 1994. The base, comprised of teak, measures 7 x 4.5 x 2 in. and contains a recessed slot to house the metal relic. It bears a brass plaque on the front reading, in Norwegian: ‘60m Rustnig OG Teak DEKING [sic] Fra Tysk Slagship Tromso Museo, 1994’ (‘60m Rusted OG Teak Decking from German Battleship, Tromso Museum, 1994’). Very good.
