Description
(1861 – 1928) Italian general and a Marshal of Italy, mostly known as Chief of Staff of the Regio Esercito during World War I. He halted the Austro-Hungarian advance in the First Battle of Monte Grappa and led the Italians to a major victory at the Second Battle of the Piave River. He also achieved a decisive victory in the Battle of Vittorio Veneto, which ended the war on the Italian Front. He is celebrated as one of the greatest generals of the war. Rare I.S.P., 8.5 x 12.25 in. b/w, an excellent chest, up portrait in uniform, inscribed to a lady in French, May 21, 1919. In a beautiful period patriotic gilt wood frame.
