Description

The dazzling uniforms and armor worn by the Roman legions served psychologically to reinforce the confidence of the soldier and intimidate his enemy. They were finely made to the smallest detail. This is the belt terminal from a legionary baldrick (sword belt). By the second century, such belts had split (multiple) ends for stylish flair. See https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Military%20Belts plate 43 for a similar example described as amphora shaped and "originally silvered". This example is just under 1" in length and delicately made. It was secured to the belt end by rivets in the two top holes and is now mounted as a pendant on an 18” Sterling silver neck chain. It is professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, and gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
