Description
An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, covered silvered and enamel kogo or box for incense. The box is enameled with a blue enamelled design depicting a flower surrounded by a circular motif made in the Cloisonne technique. The ground is inlaid with a Goldstone. Circa: late 19th century to the early 20th century. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home. The kogo is also a wonderful item of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in, and around the house or office.
