Note: Margot Sandeman was born in Glasgow in 1922 to an artistic family; her father Archibald Sandeman was a self-taught watercolourist and her mother Muriel Boyd was an internationally regarded embroiderer who trained with Jessie Newbery at Glasgow School of Art. Like her mother before her, Sandeman also attended the Glasgow School of Art, where she established a close and long-lasting friendship with the artist Joan Eardley. Sandeman also became close to Ian Hamilton Finlay at this time, later collaborating with him both on publications from the Wild Hawthorn Press and on a series of paintings.She won the RSA's prestigious Guthrie Award in 1958, and the Anne Redpath Award in 1970. That same year she also won a Scottish Arts Council Award. Her work is held in national institutions including the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the Fleming Collection.
