Oil and Alkyd on Canvas (Unframed) by Squeak Carnwath (American, b. 1947), titled "Keep Still", 1984. This artwork features a central orb adorned with various forms, markings, and human-like attributes in a palette of black, white, red, and blue, along with other accent colors. It is characterized by heavy impasto and expressive brushwork, with the title incorporated into the composition. The canvas measures approximately 48" x 48" x 2". The artist's name, date, medium, and dimensions are inscribed in black paint on the canvas verso. It is also signed on the stretcher. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences.
