Antique c1880 Mens Indian Embellished Coat. This antique c1880 burgundy velvet coat from the 19th century Maharaja era. It features a high round neckline, extensive metallic tambour embroidery in silver and gold in a mix of floral, paisley, and other decorative borders throughout the entire piece. The coat has 2 small front facing pockets at the waist and it is lined in a striped yellow silk, with a more vibrant striped yellow silk along the inner and outer edges of the coat. The sleeves are lined in a red cotton and the coat has both button and hook and eye front facing closures at the chest and waist. As well as a flared shape from the waist down and purple and white striped silk thin outer border. Laying flat the coat measures: shoulders 15'', chest 20.5'', waist 18.5'', sleeve 23'', length 37.5''. The coat is in fair condition with overall tarnishing and losses to the tambour embroidery, losses to the velvet pile, fraying along almost every seam, missing closures, wear to the silk lining, and several spots and water stains. with one especially large stain on the lining. There is also a past alteration or conservation effort lengthening the sleeves that is visible. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
