Description
Extensive WWI diary comprised of manuscript entries and newspaper clippings. Includes war-time commentary, and many of the clippings contain maps. Also includes day to day typical entries (the weather, what they did that day, etc.) Dates range from approximately May to December of 1915 (i.e. prior to the American entrance into WWI), disbound, sheets loose, small 4to. Some contents seem to suggest that the compiler may have been the wife or close associate of a government official, or perhaps a member of the press. Whatever the case, the compiler appears to have been privy to information which may not have been known to the wider public: "The President's message to Germany has not yet been sent...will be forwarded tonight." In another entry, "The course of the President has been determined... will be announced as soon as it is proper to publish... This statement was made at the White House today by Secretary [illegible] for a conference with President Wilson." Unnamed complier and diarist, being the "I" in the phrase "Bob and I" which appears in entries throughout (e.g. Bob and I went here, or ate there, or did this, etc.) Worthy of additional research.
Condition
Some leaves chipped or frayed or torn (particularly some of the clippings.) As-is.
