Edith Pinhey, Early 20th century, Watercolour, A Burmese valley landscape with mountains from the hills. Possibly Chin State, Western Burma / Myanmar. Signed and dated 1904 lower right. Approx. 14" x 25 3/4"
Pinhey was born in New York, she was a member of the American Art Colony in Paris, having studied and lived there through World War I. Her father was a publisher and founder of G. P. Putnam's Sons. She married Robert Pinhey, a British Judge in Bombay, India. She painted many Burmese views to include pagodas in Mandalay, Buddhist temples, etc. Pinhey was one of the few women to have signed their work in Tuck's postcards after her own watercolours that she painted after moving to Burma
