He distinguished himself in Egypt and took part in the coup d'Žtat of 18-Brumaire. At Maringo, his cavalrymen's charge was decisive. Napoleon made him Marshal of the Empire in 1804. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. He distinguished himself in all the Empire's campaigns, from Austerlitz to 1813, when he was killed by a cannonball just before the battle of LŸtzen (May 1st). Document Signed ÒBessiresÓ with approx. 30 autograph words as second in command of the Guard of Consuls, Paris, 29 Germinal (An IX April 19, 1801), I p. in folio, damp stamp of the 3rd regt. of dragons. Piece slightly trimmed at the head and pasted on old vellum for its conservation, traces of folds. rare, especially with an autograph part. ÒEtat de serviceÓ of citizen Franois Lebrun. Bessires attests that when he presented himself for service in the Guard (of the Consuls) the interested party had documents attesting that he had been in all the campaigns.
