Description
A graduate of St Cyr and Saumur, he distinguished himself in the First World War and then served in Morocco from 1921 to 1926. He was a member of General Weygand's staff. In 1944, he landed in Provence, travelled up the Rh™ne valley, crossed the Rhine and pushed on to the Danube. On the night of 8 to 9 May 1945, he signed the surrender of Germany in Berlin on behalf of France. In 1950, he was High Commissioner to Indochina.
