Description
CONGO DRC
Rare SHI Plank Mask
According to Marc Leo Felix in "Maniema", this type of sculpture would represent the primordial ancestor.
According to the same author, it was used by the descendants of the lega, or the Shi would have borrowed this tradition (in "100 peoples of Zaire")
This type of "mask" was also used by Kumu
Additional feature, this one has only one head while most of the listed parts have two.
David Hamill presented in its gallery a similar one from the Robert Dupierre collection, Paris
