Full red morocco by Morrell of London with boxing motifs in gilt on spine, top edge gilt, in a leather-backed slipcase. 9 x 5 5/8 inches (23 x 14.5 cm); xvi, 376 pp., [8 pp.] ads, with 36 hand-colored engraved plates by George and Robert Cruikshank, and 3 folding engraved plates of music (6 pp.). Minute binding wear, a very pretty copy overall, internally some toning, foxing and offsetting as usual.
An elegantly bound copy of this classic color-plate book recounting the adventures of the original Tom and Jerry. It met with extraordinary success upon its publication.
