Description
The Making of Americans, Being a History of a Family's Progress Written by Gertrude Stein 1906-1908. [Paris: Contact Editions / Three Mountains Press, 1925]. First edition, one of 500 copies (although most sent to America for the American edition). Contemporary half-morocco, now defective, with the original wrappers bound in. 9 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches (24 x 18 cm); 925 pp., unopened and untrimmed. The board detached and spine perished, otherwise clean within and largely unopened, the wrappers unmarked, worthy of repair. Wilson A6a; Together with Waldo Frank's Salvos, first edition, 1924, with an inscription from "Elizabeth" to "Gertrude," this previously suggested to be Elizabeth Bishop and Gertrude Stein but that very unlikely. Cloth-backed boards, worn, the identities of the inscription not verified by research.
Please note the description of Waldo Frank's Salvos was updated on 4/28.
