Description
Signature on The Actors' Fund of America's Second Annual “Salute To Broadway” program. An 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch (28 x 22 cm) printed program for The Actors’ Fund of America Second Annual “Salute To Broadway” luncheon held on Friday, December 21st, 1956. Signed on the wrapper by Eleanor Roosevelt. Staple bound. Some light soiling, showthrough of adhesive from a printed overlay within, pen trial on first page.
This autograph was collected by actress Gusti Huber who was in attendance at the event and is listed within. In 1956, Gusti Huber received acclaim for her portrayal of Edith Frank on Broadway in The Diary of Anne Frank (she also starred in the film in 1959). This is an interesting association as Mrs. Roosevelt had written the introduction to the first American edition of the Diary in 1952, describing it as “one of the wisest and most moving commentaries on war.” She was likely in attendance in support of the play which is listed on the rear wrapper as playing at the Piccadilly Theater.
The sale of this lot benefits The Actors' Fund directly and is accompanied by a note signed by the donor, Gusti Huber's granddaughter, the actor Samantha Mathis.
