Three late 19th century and 20th century photograph albums associated with Helena Keith-Falconer, Countess of Kintore & Arthur George Keith-Falconer, 10th Earl of Kintore
Lot includes three albums with heavy associations and photos gathered, some captioned by and pertaining to: Helena Keith-Falconer, Countess of Kintore, formerly Helena Montagu, Duchess of Manchester (née Zimmerman 1878-1971) an American heiress who twice married into the British aristocracy, firstly to the 9th Duke of Manchester and then to Arthur George Keith-Falconer, 10th Earl of Kintore.
The first album dates from August 1880, Guthrie Castle (Angus, Scotland) as penned by Sydney C. Kintore Lady Sydney Charlotte Keith-Falconer [Montagu] (1851-1932) to the first page, and begins with photos of Charleville Castle's Chapel (Ireland); then Lady Charleville's villa and rooms in Algiers together with some caricatures of Anglo-Egyptian War 0f 1882; photographs of northern France's Mount St. Michel and environs then back to Algeria with more brutal caricature Christmas Cards celebrating the Battle of Khartoum and others. Then a return to Ireland, Scotland, and Breton with photos of various castles and country homes together with a few original sketches and watercolors along with multiple magazine clippings pertaining to formal European and UK gardens.
The second album firmly into the 20th century with exterior and interior shots of classic Edwardian design and furnishings featured abodes are: Sandringham, Cortachy, Conway, Hatfield House, Wroxton Abbey, Beaufort and others. The last third of this album moves back into Northern France with images of country homes and estates then into Nuremberg, Germany with more urban photos. Bound in red cloth boards with considerable wear and breakage at spine; interior and photos are generally clean.
The third album in this lot is comprised of approx. 113 glossy 3 x 2 in (8 x 5 cm.) photos of pre but imminent WWII travels in Germany: Bad Kissingen, Bodenlaube, Waldschlosschen, Stuttgaart.
