Description
United States, Native American, Four-corners region, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Snowflake type, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery mug, of petite size and utilitarian form, that was created via the Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique. The spherical vessel features a relatively stable base, a tapered shoulder and squat neck, a thick rim, and a twisted handle arching along the verso. The white-ground exterior features stepped columns around the neck as well as a dense band of zigzagging and stepped patterns enclosed within a pair of horizontal black stripes. Size: 3.6" L x 3.25" W x 3.3" H (9.1 cm x 8.3 cm x 8.4 cm)

Condition
Professional repair and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to original pigment, with light earthen deposits, and scattered areas of pitting, otherwise in nice condition. Great motifs and twisted handle. Previous inventory labels beneath base.
