United States, Native American, Four-corners region, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Snowflake type, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-built pottery mug, of petite size and utilitarian form, that was created via the Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique. The spherical vessel features a relatively stable base, a tapered shoulder and squat neck, a thick rim, and a twisted handle arching along the verso. The white-ground exterior features stepped columns around the neck as well as a dense band of zigzagging and stepped patterns enclosed within a pair of horizontal black stripes.
