A pair of Georges Halais chrome plated vases produced for the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique, used on board S.S. Normandie, designed circa 1934, This iconic vase design was created for the Normandie and produced in two sizes,
impressed with the French Line CGT monogram.
Georges Halais (born August 17, 1893 in Neuvy-sur-Loire), with his company, Georges Halais, incorporated on January 1, 1933, is the inventor of modern lighting with, as its first application, the lighting by light ramps of some 2,000 meters of passageways of the liner Normandie which was, at the time, the largest liner in the world. For the interior decoration of the Normandie, Georges Halais, a specialist in stainless steel, is called upon, who supplies more than 50,000 kg, in very diverse forms: equipment for 300 bathrooms, door handles, metal parts of luxury and luxury apartments. This is the first large-scale use of stainless steel for the decoration of an ocean liner.
