Description

Eastern Europe, 20th century, tempera on wooden board, 30 x 20 cm. After being baptized, the Roman soldier continued to spread the Gospel and desired to serve God instead of Caesar.
St. Martinus was a soldier in the Roman Empire during the 4th century, serving in Gaul (modern-day France). Initially he was a pagan, but after a miraculous encounter, was baptized into the Christian faith.
What is remarkable to many (and also the reason why he is the patron saint of soldiers) is that he initially did not leave the military. Every Icon is sold with extensive written expertise.
